“EXTREMELY SHORT NOTICE”

US ARMY VETERAN – VIETNAM ERA

The family of Mr. Gary Anthony Hobbs, a US Army Veteran, requests the presence and participation of the San Antonio Patriot Guard at the services and LEO supported procession, and graveside rendering of military honors of their loved one. We are honored to accept this invitation.

Mr. Gary Anthony Hobbs, age 71, passed away peacefully at 11:20am, Sunday, October 20th, 2024, at the Baptist Health Hospital in Paducah, KY. Gary was born on Sunday, August 2, 1953, in Fancy Farm, KY to the late James and Irene (Burgess) Hobbs. He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Martha Hobbs, his three daughters, Jennifer Hobbs of San Antonio, TX, Julie (Cooper) Santos of Indianapolis, IN and Jackie (Roy) Moya of San Antonio, TX, his grandchildren, Cheyenne Hobbs, Dakota Hobbs, and Callie Santos, one great-granddaughter, one brother, Robert Glenn Hobbs, sisters, Mary Ruth Dossett, Rose Elaine (Larry) Seay, Belinda Gail (Charles) Nanny and Veronica Irene (Donnie) Wilson and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, James Russell Hobbs, Francis Gerald Hobbs, and Thomas Wayne Hobbs, two sisters, Joy Ann Toon and Wanda Lou Painter and a grandson, Anthony Ruben Santos.

Gary was a Vietnam War Era veteran and joined the United States Army in 1971, serving as a Military Policeman. He was proud of his service to his country. While stationed in San Antonio, he met the love of his life, Martha. They fell in love at first sight and married on February 28, 1975, and were planning their 50th anniversary celebration at the time of his passing. Their love showed in their eyes until the end. After marrying, they decided to live in San Antonio to pursue their careers until retirement. Gary worked as a glazier and retired from Northside Independent School District in 2012. It was always Gary’s dream to have a second home in his hometown of Fancy Farm, Kentucky and in 2012, they realized that dream and enjoyed living in both places for 12 years. They joined St. Jerome Catholic Church in Fancy Farm and he became a member of the Knights of Columbus there and loved participating in his small town’s activities.

Gary cherished his family and friends both in Kentucky and in San Antonio and loved spending time with them all. He enjoyed all sports, playing them when he was young and watching as he got older. He was a huge Kentucky Wildcats basketball fan, a Spurs fan and a Dallas Cowboys fan and went to many games, enjoying the trips and tailgating. He enjoyed golfing and even taught Martha to play with him. He loved “the ranch” and hunting, late nights around a bonfire, singing, dancing, and spending time with family. He and Martha also traveled extensively during retirement, living each day to the fullest. He always had a smile on his face. He will be sorely missed by so many friends and family in both states. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, brother, brother-in-law, Uncle, Paw Paw and friend. He will be especially missed by his wife, Martha, and his daughters, who adored him and took care of him until his last breath.
