US NAVY VETERAN – RETIRED SAPD OFFICER
The family of Mr. Travis Allen Stevenson, a US Navy Veteran, requests the presence and participation of the San Antonio Patriot Guard at the services, and the LEO supported procession, and graveside rendering of military honors of their loved one. We are honored to accept this invitation.
Travis Allen Stevenson, age 61, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on June 3, 2026. Born on May 21, 1965, in Honolulu, Hawaii, Travis lived a life defined by service, strength, loyalty, and love for his family. Whether serving his country, protecting his community, or caring for those closest to him, he approached life with determination, conviction, and a larger-than-life presence that left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
The qualities that would define Travis throughout his life were evident from a young age. His high school years fostered a lifelong appreciation for leadership, teamwork, and service to others. While attending Calallen High School in Corpus Christi, Texas, he excelled in the Future Farmers of America (FFA), earning State-level recognition in Parliamentary Procedure and developing skills that would serve him throughout his military, law enforcement, and family life. He later graduated from Jourdanton High School (1983), where he enjoyed playing baseball on the school’s team. He continued his education at Texas A&I University in Kingsville, Texas, completing his degree early and graduating in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture. During his college years, he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity, where he embraced the camaraderie, loyalty, and sense of brotherhood that remained important to him throughout his life.
Upon graduating from college, Travis proudly served in the United States Navy, completing five years of active-duty service and six years in the Naval Reserves. He separated from the Navy with an honorable discharge at the rank of Lieutenant Commander. His military service reflected the values he carried throughout his life—honor, commitment, leadership, and a willingness to put others before himself.
Following his active-duty military career, Travis dedicated 28 years to the San Antonio Police Department, where he faithfully served the citizens of San Antonio. He rose to the rank of Detective, working in Youth Services, Gang Unit, Intelligence Detail, and Homicide. He earned the respect of fellow officers through his leadership, work ethic, and unwavering sense of duty. He took great pride in wearing the badge and in his deep commitment to helping to keep San Antonio safe through his steadfast work in the police department.
While Travis was proud of his military and law enforcement service, his greatest accomplishment was his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin, and friend whose love for his family and friends knew no bounds. He was fiercely protective of those he cared about and never hesitated to step in when someone needed help, guidance, or support. His generosity was evident in both big and small (often unspoken) ways, and he found great joy in providing and caring for those he loved.
Those who knew Travis knew exactly where they stood with him. He was honest, direct, and unapologetically himself. He possessed a stubborn streak that became legendary among family and friends, but it was rooted in conviction, loyalty, and a fierce commitment to doing what he believed was right. He stood by the people he loved and the principles he valued, never wavering in his dedication to either.
Travis had a dry wit, a playful sarcasm, and an uncanny ability to deliver the perfect one-liner. He loved making people laugh, often by interjecting a humorous twist on a shared experience, with a straight face that left others wondering whether he was joking at all, until his infectious and unmistakable laugh inevitably followed. Many will forever remember one of his favorite lines: “Do you like apples?” The familiar punchline—”Well, then, how do you like THEM apples?”—was often understood, even when everyone already knew it was coming.
An avid sports fan, Travis could often be found cheering for the Dallas Cowboys, Houston Astros, and Texas Longhorns. He enjoyed the excitement, competition, and camaraderie that sports brought, and he rarely passed up an opportunity to watch a game, share an opinion, or celebrate a victory with family and friends. The Astros’ Opening Day was a favorite annual event, and Travis created lifelong memories with family and friends who sat (or stood) with him in the stadium and helped him cheer on his beloved Astros.
Travis also loved hosting game-watching events, barbecues, and pool parties at his home. Friends and family alike were invited and always welcomed with open arms.
More than anything, Travis lived and loved large. He embraced life fully, cared deeply for the people around him, and left an unmistakable mark wherever he went. His strength provided comfort, his loyalty provided security, and his love provided a foundation upon which his family will continue to build for generations to come.
Travis is survived by his beloved wife, Eva Stevenson; his children, Tiffany Lopez (Rocky), Jessica Buikema, and Ryan Stevenson (Lillian); his children in love, Adam Hernandez, Danielle Fuentes, and Crystal Hernandez; his mother, Eva “Marlene” Stevenson; his sisters, Melissa Roth (James) and Beverly Davidek (Dirk); twelve grandchildren; one great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews; and many extended family members, friends, fellow officers, and military colleagues.
He was preceded in death by his father, Billy Wayne “Bill” Stevenson, and grandparents James Turner, Gladys Turner, Virginia Lane, H. S. “Stanley” Lane, and John D. Stevenson.
