US AIR FORCE VETERAN – VIETNAM WAR

The family of Mr. Ronald Lee Welfel, a US Air Force Veteran, requests the presence and participation of the San Antonio Patriot Guard at the services and LEO supported procession, and graveside rendering of military honors of their loved one. We are honored to accept this invitation.

Ronald Lee Welfel, age 76, and a resident of New Braunfels, Texas, passed away Monday evening, February 12, 2024, at Resolute Health Hospital. Ron was born on September 1, 1947 in Yoakum, TX to the late Oscar Welfel and Helen Culak Welfel. He grew up in Victoria, Texas and graduated from Victoria High School.

He proudly served in the United States Air Force and was a Vietnam Veteran. During his four years of service, to include a combat tour in Vietnam, he was an F-4 Phantom Crew Chief. Upon leaving the military, Ron embarked on an accomplished career in real estate and property management. After retiring, he ventured into entrepreneurship, unleashing his creativity to transform antiques into beautiful works of art.

Ron never forgot his commitment and camaraderie associated with his military service. Combining two of his passions: supporting veterans and riding motorcycles, he became a member of the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association (CVMA) and was a founding member of the Austin Chapter. Ron was an incredibly dedicated member, serving as the treasurer for multiple years. Throughout his tenure, he played a vital role in fundraising efforts and providing assistance to veteran families in need. Additionally, he organized and hosted engaging bingo events for residents at the Kerrville VA Medical Center. Upon his move to New Braunfels, he joined the Canyon Lake CVMA Chapter. Ron’s unwavering commitment and contributions made a significant impact on the community. As a devoted member of the Patriot Guard, he considered it a profound honor and took immense pride in escorting fallen heroes to their peaceful resting place. Every Christmas, you would find him placing wreaths on the headstones of veterans, paying tribute to their sacrifice and service.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar, and Helen Welfel. Survivors include his loving wife of 54 years, Beth Welfel; daughter, Tammy Fisher-Lloyd (Norman); grandsons, Devin (Kaitlyn) and Jaden; brothers, Kenneth Welfel (Helen) and Calvin Welfel (Debbie), and by his sister, Carolyn Schoener (Norman).
