US ARMY RETIRED VETERAN – ODS, OEF, OIF

The family of Mr. Rodolfo Garza Jr, a US Army (Ret.) Veteran, requests the presence and participation of the San Antonio Patriot Guard at the services and LEO supported procession, and graveside rendering of military honors of their loved one. We are honored to accept this invitation.

Rodolfo (Rudy) Garza, Jr. Passed away at Audie Murphy VA Hospital in San Antonio, Texas on January 30, 2025 at 63 years of age after losing a hard fought and courageous battle with Metastatic Melanoma Cancer. Rudy was born on January 12, 1962, in Laredo, Texas to Josefina Campos Garza and Rodolfo Garza, Sr.

Rudy grew up in Laredo and graduated from Martin High School in 1980. On March 20,1984, he enlisted in the United States Army where he faithfully served for 23 years. He retired from the Army on Feb 6, 2005, and was a civilian employee for the US Army as a fuel specialist working specifically with Black Hawk Helicopters. The latter part of his Army career was spent with the National Guard.

For many years, Rudy was an active and proud member of the American Legion Post #667 in Universal City where he served on the Executive Board. He was also a member of the Universal City VFW Post #4676.

Upon his passing, he was employed at SCUCISD where he was well liked and admired for his hard work and dedication. As a side job, Rudy picked up gigs as a DJ. He always got his crowd out on the dancefloor having a great time dancing to the music he picked out for them. And he would have a great time too!

Rudy enjoyed going to the Casinos, Retama Racetrack, fishing at the coast, golf, cooking, and grilling, doing handyman work for family and friends, singing karaoke, and spending time with family and friends.

Rudy was a kind, generous, and thoughtful man who enjoyed life to the fullest. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and loyal friend. He was a Patriot who loved his country and took great pride in his Army career. Rudy’s memory will be cherished dearly by family and friends and he will be in our hearts forever.

Rudy was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, Rene Escobedo, and his beloved cat, Baxter Ann Brietzke Garza. He is survived by his beloved wife Amy Brietzke. They enjoyed 24 wonderful and exciting years together. He is also survived by his three children, Jessica, David, and Christopher Ben Garza, their mother Maricela Garza, grandsons Elias and Lincoln Garza, sister Joanna Escobedo, and immediate family members John and Lisa Longobardi and their sons Nick and Nate.
