US ARMY VETERAN – VIETNAM WAR

The family of Mr. Robert Joe Ramirez, a US Army Veteran, requests the presence and participation of the San Antonio Patriot Guard at the services, and the LEO supported procession, and graveside rendering of military honors of their loved one. We are honored to accept this invitation.

Robert was born in San Antonio, Texas, to Gonzalo and Maria Ramirez. He was raised with a strong foundation of faith and served as an altar boy at St. Jude Catholic Church. During his high school years, Robert was a talented athlete and standout football player at Stockdale High School, where he was known as a leading rusher. As a freshman, he was honored by his peers as Pep Squad Beau-an award typically reserved for seniors- reflecting the respect and admiration he earned from those around him. He later returned to San Antonio and graduated from Edgewood High School before continuing his education at San Antonio College.

Robert was a proud veteran who dedicated much of his life to serving his country. He joined the United States Army and served in Vietnam, with assignments in Fort Lewis, Washington; Fort Monmouth, New Jersey; Fort Dix, New Jersey; and Fort Campbell, Kentucky. His commitment to service continued in the Army National Guard, from which he retired after 23 years. In his civilian career, Robert worked at Wilford Hall Medical Center, retiring in 2002 after many years of faithful service.

Robert was the beloved husband of Rebecca Ramirez, with whom he shared 53 wonderful years of marriage. He was known for his kindness, gentle nature, intelligence, and quick wit. His sense of humor brought joy to family gatherings, and he was especially cherished by his many nieces and nephews. Above all, Robert was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and uncle who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Rebecca Ramirez; his daughter, Elizabeth Nieto (Daniel); his son, Andrew Ramirez (Anisa); his grandson, Alexander Nieto; his granddaughter, Alyssa Nieto; his sisters, Mary Gonzales, Ida Garza, Sylvia Mesa, and Rosie Padron; and his brother Rudy Ramirez.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gonzalo, and Maria Ramirez; and his brothers, Gonzalo Ramirez Jr., Arnold Ramirez, and Richard Ramirez.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the medical staff at the Audie L. Murphy VA Hospital, the staff at Texas Oncology, especially Dr. Ed Hesita, along with Jorge, Michelle, and the entire care team, for their compassion and support, Alamo Hospice, and Hunter’s Pond Rehabilitation Center, especially Jasmine.

Robert’s legacy of love, service, and quiet strength will live on in all who knew him. He will be remembered always, missed deeply, and loved forever.
