US NAVY VETERAN – WWII
The family of Mr. Robert Earl Bradley, a US Navy Veteran, requests the presence and participation of the San Antonio Patriot Guard at the service of their loved one. We are honored to accept this invitation.
Robert Earl Bradley entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on January 13, 2026 at the age of 101.
Robert was born on January 19, 1924 in Fort Worth, Texas, the oldest of eight children and the last living sibling. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ethel Bradley, and previous wife, Florence Bean and survived by his loving and devoted wife of 54 years, Madelyn Bradley, 3 daughters, Karen Bradley Leckie (Robert), Vicki Fritcher (Tim), Carolyn Cavaness (Coby), grandchildren Tori Darter (Clint) Jake Fritcher (Bekah), Tucker Cavaness and Sarah Jimenez (Joe) and two great grandchildren, Breklyn, and Broden Darter.
Robert spent his early years in Del Rio and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II serving in the South Pacific as a radioman. After the war, he built a long and meaningful life. He married Florence Bean and welcomed a daughter Karen. He became an engineer with the Texas Department of Transportation, designing and building roads and bridges and overseeing projects in four counties. In 1971 he married Madelyn Mills, sharing over 54 years of marriage. He was a devoted stepfather to Vicki and Carolyn and a cherished presence in the lives of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Upon retirement in 1979, he continued to stay busy, working in his new surveying business and soil testing lab. He also assisted in designing and building the interior of Madelyn’s clothing stores. When he was not working, he loved to golf and was often club champion. He was a prize-winning fisherman and enjoyed time on Lake Amistad with his brothers and vacationing in Washington state. Robert was great with his hands and could build anything, even a treehouse for his grandchildren. Downtime included reading novels and his Bible. Wherever Robert and Madelyn lived, he involved himself in the local church and found places to serve his Savior. His faith life was enriched on the Walk to Emmaus and he returned to the retreat as a speaker on several occasions. Robert was active into his 90s, including making repairs to his church’s roof and flying to Washington, D.C. with Honor Flight Austin.
Robert moved into the Frank M. Tejeda Texas State Veterans’ Home in 2021 where he was known as Mr. B. If you were to ask any staff member or resident what they will remember about Mr. B it would be his SMILE which he maintained to the end. The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the incredible caregivers on C-Hall who provided compassionate love and care during this time. Thanks also to Mary Castro for her longtime care and to Marquita Brown with Gentiva Hospice for providing comfort and dignity in Robert’s last days.
