US ARMY VETERAN
The family of Mr. Michael “John” Nixon, a US Army Veteran, requests the presence and participation of the San Antonio Patriot Guard at the services and LEO supported procession, and graveside rendering of military honors of their loved one. We are honored to accept this invitation.
Michael John Nixon, 60, known to all as John, passed from this world on Friday, November 15, 2024, after a long battle with nonalcoholic liver disease. John was born on July 17, 1964, in San Angelo, Texas. He is survived by his wife Jennifer, sons Michael John Junior, Andy and daughter-in-law Lauren, twin brother Gary and sister-in-law Jayne, step children Layne and his wife Dayana, Tyler and his wife Jewels, Madysen and her fiancé Brandon, grandchildren John, Barrett, Ayva, Olly and Oliver, and nieces Ashley and Allie. He was preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn and father, Norman.
John was a lover of life. He is remembered by all who knew and loved him for his laughter, his sense of humor, and his caring spirit. He was quick with a joke. He loved to laugh and bring joy to those around him. He had a rambunctious, boisterous but friendly presence anywhere he went. The term “life of the party” was meant for men like John. He was loud and fun and full of life and love.
John entered this world two minutes before his brother Gary, but only because the doctor performed a C-section. Apparently, Gary was lined up and ready to go. Still, John was the firstborn, and he was not shy about reminding his little brother of that fact.
John was raised in Kerrville Texas, where he ran around town, played his music too loud, and drank underage at the Armadillo Run. He graduated from Tivy High School. He enlisted in the United States Army but received an injury during training, leading to a medical discharge nine months later. He lived in Arizona and New Jersey, where he worked a variety of jobs, including as a delivery driver and pharmacy assistant. He later returned to Texas with his family, working in a variety of customer service roles.
John loved rock and roll and country music, action movies, Harley Davidson motorcycles, his kids, grandchildren, and his wife Jennifer. His favorite TV show was the Sopranos, and his favorite movie was ‘The Boondock Saints,’ and his hands were tattooed with “Veritas” and “Aequitas,” which translates to Truth and Justice which he lived by.
John was happily married to the love of his life, Jennifer, in September of 2021, in an intimate ceremony under an oak tree in Luckenbach, Texas. It really does not get more Texas than that. Although their marriage might have been short in years, it was long in love. They never had an argument, somewhat hard to believe for those of us who remember how stubborn John could be. Jen was his loving caretaker through his illness, always by his side advocating for her husband. She never gave up and gave him all the love and comfort anyone could hope for throughout his health battles. They loved each other with the full measure of their hearts, and were utterly devoted to each other. Their love lives on.
Jennifer wishes to thank John’s entire medical team, especially Highland Lakes hospital in Burnet and the hospice care team at St. David’s North Austin Medical center for their care and compassion.
