US AIR FORCE RETIRED VETERAN
The family of Mr. Johnny Mac Lairsey, Sr., a US Air Force (Ret.) Veteran, requests the presence and participation of the San Antonio Patriot Guard at the graveside rendering of military honors of their loved one. We are honored to accept this invitation.
Johnny M. Lairsey Sr., a dedicated family man and retired United States Air Force Senior Master Sergeant, passed away on May 10, 2026, at the age of 85.
Born on April 19, 1941, in Pavo, Georgia, Johnny possessed a strong sense of duty from a young age, enlisting in the United States Air Force when he was just 18 years old. His distinguished military career spanned over two decades, during which he served with honor during deployments to Thailand, Korea, and various duty stations across the United States and Japan. He rose to the esteemed rank of Senior Master Sergeant before retiring from the Armed Forces in 1980.
Following his military retirement, Johnny transitioned to civilian life by accepting a position with the State of Texas. He brought his characteristic work ethic and dedication to his second career, proudly serving the state for twenty years before his final retirement in 2000.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Johnny lived a life rich with community, faith, and adventure. A man who loved to give back, he found great joy in singing in the choir at Cornerstone Church for over a decade. His heart for service also extended to the Brooke Army Medical Center, where he generously volunteered at the information booth for more than ten years, welcoming and assisting everyone who walked through the doors.
Johnny was an avid traveler who loved exploring the world, with the lush landscapes of Killarney, Ireland, holding a special place in his heart as his favorite destination. At home, he possessed a vibrant spirit and could often be found dancing and listening to his favorite country music.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and family. Johnny is survived by his loving sister, Linda; his three children, Patti, Lori, and Johnny Jr.; his four grandchildren, Courtney, Rachel, Hope, and Rebecca; and his five great-grandchildren, Baelyn, Lyanna, Bennett, Zora, and Holden, all of whom will carry his memory forward.
