The family of Mr. Johnnie L.R. Thompson, a US Air Force (Ret.) Veteran, requests the presence and participation of the San Antonio Patriot Guard at the services, and the LEO supported procession, and graveside rendering of military honors of their loved one. We are honored to accept this invitation.
Johnnie Lee Roy Thompson, 92, of San Antonio, Texas passed away on the early morning of Saturday, August 1, 2026. Johnnie Lee Roy Thompson was born July 27, 1934 to Addie Seals Davis and Johnnie Thompson.
Johnnie was a descendant of the Cherokee Nation Indian Tribe, born and reared in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He attended Manuel Training High School. After graduation in 1954, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, retiring as a Master Sergeant after twenty years of service.
After retiring, he enrolled in San Antonio College, graduating with an Associate degree in Mortuary Science. Johnnie was certified by the Conference of Funeral Service Examining Boards of the United States, Inc. He received his Funeral Directors license in 1976 and Embalming License in 1977 from the State Board of Morticians of Texas. Johnnie was a Certified Funeral Service Practitioner (CFSP), awarded by the Academy of Professional Funeral Service Practice, Inc. He was a member of the Independent Funeral Directors Association of Texas, Inc. (IFDA) for over 45 years, serving in capacities of Chairperson of Elections, Constitution, and By Laws, Chair of Rules and Credentials Committee, and Past President of Southwest Texas District #5 of IFDA. He was a member of the Alamo Funeral Directors Association, National Funeral Directors and Morticians Association, Inc and Texas Funeral Directors Association.
Johnnie served on the Board of Directors of Independent Funeral Directors Association of Texas and served as Chaplain of Alpha Iota Chapter Epsilon Nu Delta Morticians Fraternity Inc. He was an employee of Sutton & Sutton Mortuary, Inc. for over thirty years.
Johnnie was a Life Member of the United Methodist Men and has received recognition as a Fellow of the Society of John Wesley United Methodist Men. He was a participant in the Walk to Emmaus.
Johnnie received many awards during his Christian Walk which include St. Paul United Methodist Church Man of the Year. He worked with the Food Bank-Feed My Lambs Program picking up food to be given to the needy. He was an active member of the Men’s Bible Class and the Board of Stewards. He was the coordinator of “Every Man Shares” in Spiritual Life Ministries. He continuously served as a role model through his commitment to church and his services in the community. This is also demonstrated by his Life Membership in NAACP.
Johnnie was married to Johnnie Merry, who preceded him in death in 2023. Johnnie is survived by his brother Dr. Norman L. Thompson (Virginia); his four daughters, Carole Stevenson (Eric), Kimberly Thompson, Sherri Luck and Stephanie Pearson, seven grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
The daughters of Johnnie L. R. Thompson would like to offer a special acknowledgment and heartfelt appreciation to Margie R. Gaines for her service, dedication, and extended love to the life of our father.

1. Iron horses if you can, cages are always welcome and appreciated and unless under special circumstances not allowed in processions. You do not have to have a motorcycle to participate in honoring our veterans.
2. Safety First: Please remember to properly hydrate (including the night before) before any outdoor activity and to dress appropriately. Do not hesitate to take a break at any time if you feel you need to get in the shade or get indoors and always ask for help at any time. Also please do not forget your sun screen.
3. Please remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent, and with honor and. NO TALKING, SMOKING, CHEWING OF TOBACCO PRODUCTS, OR CELL PHONE USE IN THE FLAG LINE!

Funeral Processions/Escorts
EVERY RIDER IS SOLELY RESPONSIBLE for their own safety at all times while riding in a funeral procession.
At NO TIME are any riders authorized to block any intersection or otherwise block or impede traffic laws in any way. Only Law Enforcement officials are authorized to block and/or impeded the lawful flow of traffic.
If you choose to fly a Flag on your bike you are SOLELY RESPONSIBLE for ensuring it is secured and not a danger to any other rider or traffic.
