US AIR FORCE RETIRED VETERAN – KOREAN & VIETNAM WAR’S

The family of Mr. Frank Adonirum Thompson Jr, a US Air Force (Ret.) Veteran, requests the presence and participation of the San Antonio Patriot Guard at the graveside rendering of military honors of their loved one. We are honored to accept this invitation.

MSGT Frank A. Thompson, Jr, USAF, (Ret) passed away at home October 31, following a medical emergency. His wife and daughter were by his side.

Before serving in the United States Air Force, Frank was in the Korean War with the US Navy, serving aboard the USS Johnston, a destroyer escort.

After his service in the Navy, he worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad as a brakeman. At this time, he married Charlotte Trout in Philadelphia and they had two children together, Frank A. Thompson, III, now deceased and Charlene Young, of Red Deer, Alberta, Canada.

Frank decided to return to active duty, and he joined the Air Force as an Air Traffic Controller. He served on numerous bases during his career and had two tours of duty in Vietnam, receiving, among other awards, a Bronze Star with ‘V’ device, during his tour at DaNang AFB.

Frank and Charlotte broke up while he was serving in Oregon. He met and married his final love of his life, Fusako, while serving in Okinawa. They had one daughter Linda Kim, who still lives close by to Frank’s Live Oak home. After retiring from the Air Force, he tried his hand as a long-haul truck driver; but he missed being around military personnel and service to our country, so he applied for a civil service position as air field manager at Kelly AFB. He retired from civil service.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Edith, and son Frank A. Thompson, III. He is survived by his wife Diane Fusako, his daughters Linda Kim Kirkwood, Charlene Young, husband Terry, his brother LTC Theodore H. Thompson, USA, (Ret), six grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.

“I have now – put out my hand, and touched the face of God.”
