US ARMY VETERAN

The family of Mr. Emilio Fonseca, a US Army Veteran, requests the presence and participation of the San Antonio Patriot Guard at the services and LEO supported procession, and graveside rendering of military honors of their loved one. We are honored to accept this invitation.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”

Emilio (Pops) Fonseca, a beloved son, grandson, brother, husband, father, pops, grandfather, uncle, nephew, brother-in-law, cousin, friend, and veteran. He was born on October 22, 1950, in San Antonio, Texas to Ernesto and Doris Jimenez Fonseca. He was called home in Oklahoma by the Lord Jesus Christ surrounded by his family and friends praying over him, leading him on his journey to heaven on Wednesday December 6, 2024, at the age of 74. He was reunited in heaven with open arms to his loving wife and sweetheart, Janice Resendez Fonseca, sister Helen Fonseca Munoz, granddaughter Ariel Angel Hernandez, sisters-in-law: Alicia Fonseca, Jo Ann Jimenez and Sylvia Ann Resendez, parents, grandparents, uncles, and aunts.

Emilio is survived by his loving son, Alexander (Alex) Emilio Fonseca; step-sons: Basilio (Buzz) Garcia Jr., Mark Anthony Garcia, Gabriel Gene Garcia. His grandchildren: Jennifer Garcia (Carlos) Castillo, Kristen Garcia, Jeremy (Ariel) Garcia, Daniella Garcia, Gabriel Garcia Jr., Andrew Garcia, Raul Perez, and Benjamin Hernandez: and great-granddaughter Genesis Garcia, sisters: Ernestina (Jesse) Rendon, Enriqueta (Ben) Martinez; brothers: Twin Ernest Fonseca, Edward (Rachael) Fonseca and sisters and brothers-in law, Linda (Roger) Peredia, Blanca Martinez, and friend Mary (Shorty) Gonzales and Lucinda Gonzales (Xavier) Baca, Joseph Resendez Jr., Leandro M. (Ida) Gonzales Jr., Francisco Gonzales; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren, aunts, uncles, and a host of friends in San Antonio and Oklahoma.

He was a proud graduate of Lanier (Voks) High School and shortly after joined the US Army and Reserves. He worked at Kelly and Tinker Air Force Base retiring from Civil Service with a total 30 plus years of service. He took much pride in a job well done. He volunteered for St. Philip Neri Catholic School in Midwest City, Oklahoma afterschool program. Emilio and Janice were a staple at every fall festival the school and parish held with their popcorn and snow cone machines. They would dress up as Mr. & Mrs. Santa Claus during Christmas that brought lots of joy to so many children’s faces. Emilio had a love for sports as assistant coach for his sons, nieces, and nephews CYO tee ball, softball and basketball for St. Philip of Jesus and St. Leo’s Catholic Church. He was Alex’s biggest fan supporting him and his friends at their softball games. He loved camping and fishing with his family in Rockport, and Corpus and enjoyed being a part of Alexis’s band running their sound system, watching his TV shows, like old western movies cheering for the Spurs, Dallas Cowboys games and enjoyed thrift stores shopping. Emilio had his own DJ called Dynamic Sounds, he loved the sound of music especially Tejano, Conjunto, Oldies, Country, Mariachi music and loved to dance. He also enjoyed barbecues because it was a mixture of everything that is great in life…. cooking, beer (holy water), campfires, food, family gathering and coming back to his hometown San Antonio and attending special family events like Easter, parties, weddings, and any celebration. He was a loving, giving, helping person who brought laughter and joy to his family and friends. Emilio continues to be a loving son, grandson, husband, father, pops, brother, uncle godfather, cousin, friend, and veteran.

Dad (Pops), we love you. You will be greatly missed but never forgotten, and you will forever be in our hearts.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude for the love, support, prayers, and kindness shown to us during our time of loss. We extend special thanks to our families, friends, hospitals, the VA, rehabilitation, and hospice facility, as well as the dedicated doctors, nurses, social workers, and staff in Oklahoma and San Antonio. Your exceptional acts of kindness will be remembered with deep appreciation. God bless each of you!
