The family of Mr. Elsner Joseph (E.J.) Landry, a US Air Force Veteran, requests the presence and participation of the San Antonio Patriot Guard at the graveside rendering of military honors of their loved one. We are honored to accept this invitation.
Elsner Joseph “EJ” Landry of Hammond, Louisiana, passed away peacefully, at age 94, surrounded by his close, loving family on January 24, 2024, near Garden Ridge, Texas. EJ was born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on October 16, 1929, to Ernest Rene Landry and Jeanne (Leblanc) Landry.
EJ was preceded in death by his siblings, Annabelle (Landry) Currie; Rosabelle Rita (Landry) Harris; and Shirley Mae (Landry) Benson; nephews: Leonard (Barrios) Benson, Robert Benson, Thomas Currie and niece: Jeanne Marie “Tootsie” Benson.
EJ is survived by his children with: Ramona Mastalerz (deceased), Rene Landry and grandchildren Victor Landry and Vincent Landry, (Mary); stepchildren Christopher Rutledge, Patricia Rutledge, and Rebekah (Rutledge) Cummings (and 7 great grandchildren). Kevin Landry and grandchildren; Kevin J Landry, Cassandra (Landry) Walker, Dylan Landry, and Ashlyn Landry (and 3 great grandchildren). Rhonda Beasley (Chuck) and grandchild, Kyle Bennett (and 4 great grandchildren).
Also, children with Betty Landry: Steven Landry and Laurie (Landry) Metzger (Tim) and grandchildren Bryce Metzger and Riley Metzger. And wife Deborah Landry; stepchildren Jay Daigrepont, Jeff Daigrepont, and Angel (Daigrepont) Diaz and step grandchildren Sergio Diaz and Shiloh Diaz. Nieces: Jenney (Currie) Hill and Renee (Benson) Benham. There are many grand nieces and nephews and great grand nieces and nephews.
EJ’s favorite names were: “Boy”, Dad, Daddy, and Pops, and most especially, Popo. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, supporting his family in their endeavors. Mr. Landry proudly served his country in the US Army Air Core from 1946-1949. EJ then enlisted into the US Air Force on June 1, 1949, and he was Honorably Discharged on January 23, 1953.
After his time in the military, EJ worked a few odd jobs driving a cab, delivering beer, and doing some bookkeeping. EJ worked for Renault Dealership in New Orleans from 1957 to 1959, Mike Persia Chevrolet in 1959, which was acquired by Tom Benson and became Tom Benson Chevrolet off St Mary’s Street in San Antonio. Mr. Landry retired from Tom Benson Chevrolet off San Pedro in 1996. EJ loved the New Orleans Saints and attended many games in the early days. He enjoyed LSU Tiger football, golf, bowling, and shooting pool.
He loved life and lived big. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS
1. Iron horses if you can, cages are always welcome and appreciated and unless under special circumstances not allowed in processions. You do not have to have a motorcycle to participate in honoring our veterans.
2. Safety First: Please remember to properly hydrate (including the night before) before any outdoor activity and to dress appropriately. Do not hesitate to take a break at any time if you feel you need to get in the shade or get indoors and always ask for help at any time. Also please do not forget your sun screen.
3. Please remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent, and with honor and. NO TALKING, SMOKING, CHEWING OF TOBACCO PRODUCTS, OR CELL PHONE USE IN THE FLAG LINE!
4. Cemeteries are hallowed ground. Please keep radios off and engine noise to a minimum. Observe the 15 MPH speed limit. Show our respect to ALL who are in attendance.
5. If riding/driving a motorcycle on Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, which is located within a Military Installation, you will need to wear closed toe shoes, long sleeve shirt, gloves, DOT approved helmet, eye protection, long pants, and boots/shoes that cover the ankle.

Funeral Processions/Escorts
EVERY RIDER IS SOLELY RESPONSIBLE for their own safety at all times while riding in a funeral procession.
At NO TIME are any riders authorized to block any intersection or otherwise block or impede traffic laws in any way. Only Law Enforcement officials are authorized to block and/or impeded the lawful flow of traffic.
If you choose to fly a Flag on your bike you are SOLELY RESPONSIBLE for ensuring it is secured and not a danger to any other rider or traffic.
