US ARMY RETIRED VETERAN – DESERT STORM
The family of Mr. Charles Pelkey, a US Army (Ret.) Veteran, requests the presence and participation of the San Antonio Patriot Guard at the graveside rendering of military honors of their loved one. We are honored to accept this invitation.
Charles Edward Pelkey was born December 4th, 1970 in Lincoln, Maine. He was taken too soon by a sudden illness on July 3rd, 2024. Chuck was the beloved son of Edward & Jacqueline Pelkey who predeceased him. Chuck was a proud, decorated Veteran, who among his many awards, was a recipient of the prestigious Knowlton Award. In 2018, Chuck retired from the Army after nearly 30 years of faithful service. He continued to provide IT services to Walkin’ Pets, a company that he believed provided an amazing service to help people care for their disabled pets. Chuck loved the pets that he enjoyed over the years, but most especially our dog Jethro, whom he will see again across the rainbow bridge.
Chuck was treasured by his wife of 11 years, Jena Montiverdi, whom he showed every day that she was his everything. His daughter, Brianna Pelkey & her husband Grant Chisenhall were a constant joy to him. He loved spending time hanging out & hearing of all the antics of his “furry grandkids”. His son Johnathan Pelkey & his wife Samantha were a source of pride for Chuck. He loved getting to know Samantha & was so proud of the man Johnathan has become. Chuck also enjoyed a wonderful relationship with his sisters, Dessa Morales & Andrea Daley. The shared family dinners at Dessa’s house were always something he looked forward to. He counted his brother-in-law Michael Daley as one of his greatest friends & considered himself blessed to call him family. Chuck also enjoyed time spent with his many nieces & nephews. He always appreciated catching up on their lives & hearing about all their achievements. Chuck considered Jena’s family as an extension of his own. This included his sister of the heart Jaimie Gosselin with whom he always shared the oreos with. He enjoyed the time spent laughing & joking with them, but most especially “the littles” who were a constant source of entertainment to him; calling him “Uncle Dude,” painting his fingernails pink & sitting with him to watch the various Disney movies that he downloaded for them. He had a special bond with “UJ” as they shared the Veteran status. He & UJ were 2 peas in a pod & they loved talking military together!
Chuck had more friends in this world than we can even name. He remained in contact with many of his friends from high school, including “The Edwards Brothers” whom he considered to be part of his family. He also ensured he had a good visit with his old friend Herbie every time he went home to Howland. Through his many years in the Army, Chuck made many amazing friendships that have lasted through the years. From meeting Steven Beachner during his 1st Tour in Panama (“We don’t talk about Panama!”) to “The Devens Crew” in Massachusetts, followed by the big move to Ft. Huachuca, AZ & meeting/re-connecting with so many of “The School House Posse”. Over the years, certain friendships morphed into family including The Beachners, The Kennedys, Teresa Beverley, John Hilton, Wendy Darling, “Stangela”, Mike & Karen Bass, T-Nash, Bill Kyler & “Major T”. Everywhere we went, Chuck knew someone who could tell a story about remembering “that time that we … (insert funny story here)”. A couple years after retirement, Chuck joined the team at Walkin’ Pets where he became fast friends with Kate & Will. He loved working with Kate & getting to know her family (especially his little friend Sarah!). He enjoyed mentoring Will when he came to the IT Department & appreciated his hard work during ALL of the office moves. He loved so many & was so loved in return that it is hard to mention them all.
My cousin Mike remarked “A Prince & a great man has died this day.” I do not think truer words could be spoken. Chuck was an incredible human, an amazing friend, a wonderful brother & son, a loving Father, & the ultimate love of Jena’s life. A bright light has gone out, an Oracle has died, & our world has changed forever without him. We love you, Chuck. Rest Easy, we will take it from here.
