US ARMY VETERAN

The family of Mr. Charles H. Kirby, a US Army Veteran, requests the presence and participation of the San Antonio Patriot Guard at the services and LEO supported procession, and graveside rendering of military honors of their loved one. We are honored to accept this invitation.

Charles Henry “Bo” Kirby was the only child born to Bernice “Sue” Jones and was reared by his mother Sue along with her younger siblings Melvin, Elvin, Eloise, and Robert in the home of the late Supt. W. L. Jones. He was preceded in death by his mother and father; His maternal grandparents Supt. Walter L. Jones Sr. and Missionary Lovesa Haywood Jones. A stepbrother Milton Crayton and a stepsister Bernice Crayton Bennett. Charles was referred to by many as “Bo” or “Charlie K.”

Charles received his formal education and graduated from Phyllis Wheatley High School in 1964. He attended St. Philip’s College where he obtained an Associate Degree in Business.

Charles joined and served in the US Active Army in 1965, discharged honorably and joined the US Army Reserves. He served as a Medical Specialist and a Unit Supply Technician at the Irwin Army Community Hospital in Fort Riley, KS. and was awarded twice for Employee of the Year. He served in the 651st Med Co in Ludwigsburg, Germany; Fort Polk, LA., Fort Hood, TX., and 410th Evac Hospital in Topeka, KS. Awards includes: German HeadStart 1984, Leadership Management Development Course, Non-Commissioned Officer Primary Development Ribbon, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Army Achievement Medal (8th Oak Leaf Cluster), Good conduct Medal (4th Award), Overseas Service Ribbon (3 Award), National Defense Medal, Driver Mechanic Badge, Army Commendation Medal w (3rd) OLC, Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Medal w/Bronze Star, Army Lapel Button, Weapons Expert Badge.

Charles relocated to San Antonio, Texas in 2009. He rededicated his life to Christ and joined Greater Evangelist Temple C.O.G.I.C. under the leadership of Supt. C. W. Steward where he served in many areas of the church for 11 years, then Pastor Verell Nelson. Bro. Kirby served as the President and Secretary of the Brotherhood department. He served as the Transportation Officer, Key Control and Physical Security Officer, he ran the G.E.T. Thrift Shop for 10 years. He received Certificate of Recognition exceptional performance from Supt. C. W. Steward.

In March of 2022 he moved his membership to Inspirational Church under the leadership of Pastor Kenneth R. Flye., Church Groundskeeper, Facilities manager, Transportation Officer and was responsible for picking up children from school and taking them to the church daycare where he coached and mentored the youth. Bro. Kirby faithfully served as a devoted usher at both churches. Bro. Kirby completed Deacon training at Inspirational Church and was ordained on June 2, 2024, under the leadership of Dr. Kenneth R. Flye. Deacon Kirby prepared a presentation and delivered the gospel message on 5 th Sundays.

He also volunteered and picked up at the San Antonio Food Bank for the Inspirational Church Food Pantry for distribution from 2012-2022.

He leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memories a devoted wife Lois Vaughan Kirby, one son Darayel D’Wayne Kirby (Rechetta), two grandsons D’Corrin and Devin Kirby of San Antonio, TX; one stepdaughter and two granddaughters of Virginia; one bonus daughter Cindy Kroll Fields of Killeen, TX.; three brothers-in-law Nathaniel Vaughan (Sandra), James Vaughan (Kay) of Georgia, Gary Vaughan of San Antonio, TX, one sister-in-law Cartina Vaughan Wilson (Reginald) of Georgia.; a host of cousins, family and many friends.

1. Iron horses if you can, cages are always welcome and appreciated and unless under special circumstances not allowed in processions. You do not have to have a motorcycle to participate in honoring our veterans.

2. Safety First: Please remember to properly hydrate (including the night before) before any outdoor activity and to dress appropriately. Do not hesitate to take a break at any time if you feel you need to get in the shade or get indoors and always ask for help at any time. Also please do not forget your sun screen.

3. Please remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent, and with honor and. NO TALKING, SMOKING, CHEWING OF TOBACCO PRODUCTS, OR CELL PHONE USE IN THE FLAG LINE!

At NO TIME are any riders authorized to block any intersection or otherwise block or impede traffic laws in any way. Only Law Enforcement officials are authorized to block and/or impeded the lawful flow of traffic.

If you choose to fly a Flag on your bike you are SOLELY RESPONSIBLE for ensuring it is secured and not a danger to any other rider or traffic.
