US AIR FORCE RETIRED

The family of Captin Richard Gamez, Retired US Air Force, requests the presence and participation of the San Antonio Patriot Guard Riders at the graveside rendering of military honors of their loved one. We are honored to accept this invitation.

Captain Richard Gamez, born August 18th, 1959, in Austin, Texas went to be with the Lord on June 8th, 2024, at the age of 64. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Terry Gamez; and his father, Reymundo Delgado.

Rick lived an accomplished life, being the first in his family to receive a college education, he became a registered nurse who saved countless lives in Wilford Hall Medical Center. He was a decorated Air Force captain with twenty-six years of service. He flew with the 32nd Medical Air Evacuation team as an instructor and team evaluator. His awards and decorations included Air Force Meritorious Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Southwest Asia Medal, and Operation Desert Shield and Storm.

Despite these accomplishments Rick was quoted that his highest achievement was his children. Rick had the ability to turn a dull room into a zoo with the amount of laughter he would cause. He was a friend, father, and mentor. His presence in our lives will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his daughters, Kristin E. Gamez, and Victoria Gamez; sons, Chad S. Gamez, and Alejandro Gamez; brothers, Gerald Gamez, and Edward Gamez; sisters, Monica Gonzalez, and Jeannette Yarbrough; numerous nieces and nephews; extended family and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 1:30 PM with a 12:00 PM rosary at Hillcrest Funeral Home. Family and friends will meet at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery for a 2:30 PM committal service in shelter #4.
