US ARMY VETERAN

The family of Mr. Alfred Leon Hollins Sr., a US Army Veteran, requests the presence and participation of the San Antonio Patriot Guard at the graveside rendering of military honors of their loved one. We are honored to accept this invitation.

Mr. Alfred Leon Hollins, Sr.—a man of steadfast faith, dedicated service, and profound devotion to his family—passed away peacefully at his home on May 6, 2026, at the age of 83.

A Life of Service and Achievement

Born on July 27, 1942, in Como, Texas, Alfred was the son of the late Mr. John D. Hollins and Mrs. Ruby Hollins (Johnson). He graduated from Dunbar High School in Lubbock, Texas, before pursuing higher education at Texas Tech University. A proud patriot, Alfred served his country with honor as a veteran of the United States Army. His commitment to public service continued throughout his professional life in San Antonio, where he worked for Southwestern Bell for many years before dedicating over two decades to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office. He retired as a respected Business Office Administrator, leaving behind a lasting legacy of integrity, leadership, and hard work. Beyond his career, Alfred was a pillar of his community. He served as a past President of the Rotary Club and, upon his retirement from Bexar County, was distinguished with the prestigious title of Honorary Hidalgo in recognition of his outstanding community service. Faith and Fellowship of Alfred’s life was firmly rooted in his Christian faith. As a longtime, faithful member of the MacArthur Park Church of Christ in San Antonio, his church community served as a vital foundation of strength and brought him a circle of lifelong friends. Alfred cherished the holiday season, always looking forward to spending Christmas surrounded by his family. He also made treasured annual visits to his wife’s family in Dallas, reinforcing the deep bonds of kinship.

The Journey

Alfred possessed a lifelong passion for exploration and embraced the world with curiosity. His travels took him across the globe to France, Germany, and Mexico, as well as throughout the United States, including Washington D.C., New Jersey, Virginia, New Mexico, and Colorado. Closer to home, his family fondly remembers the joy he took in organizing camping trips. Whether roughing it in tents or later traveling in an RV, he created unforgettable memories with his children and grandchildren at Lake Travis, North Padre Island in Corpus Christi, and the North Georgia Mountains.

Family and Legacy

Alfred was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mrs. Elva Diane Hollins; his parents; his brother, Mr. John Larry Hollins (Roberta – Deceased); and his sisters, Ms. Bobbie Hollins Taylor (Marvin – Deceased) and Mrs. Betty Brown (Junior – Deceased). His memory will be cherished by a large and loving family, including his mother-in-law, Ms. Ophelia D. Walker; his sister-in-law, Mrs. Ruby Taylor (Johnny) and her children, Miya and Nathaniel, along with their families.
