US AIR FORCE RETIRED VETERAN – KOREAN WAR

The family of Mr. Alexander Y. Rodriguez, a US Air Force (Ret.) Veteran, requests the presence and participation of the San Antonio Patriot Guard at the services and LEO supported procession, and graveside rendering of military honors of their loved one. We are honored to accept this invitation.

Alexander Y. Rodriguez, a cherished patriarch, decorated veteran, and beacon of joy, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2024, in San Antonio, Texas. Born on September 24,1930, in New Braunfels, Texas, to Jose and Elvira Ybarra Rodriguez, Alexander was a man whose life was as rich and fulfilling as the vast Texas skies under which he was raised.

A proud U.S. Veteran, Alexander served his country with honor and valor. He first answered the call of duty with the National Guard, then with the U.S. Army, and finally as a retiree of the U.S. Air Force. His courage was not only evident in his military career but also in his character. Alexander was a proud Korean War veteran; known for the hat he wore with immense pride—a symbol of his unwavering patriotism and the sacrifices he made for his beloved country.

Alexander’s life was defined by his hardworking hands, his intelligent mind, and his kind heart. He was a man who never met a stranger, whose laughter filled rooms, and whose presence at any gathering guaranteed smiles all around. As an avid boxing and football fan, he brought the same passion and excitement to cheering for his favorite teams as he did to every aspect of his life.

Those who knew Alexander would fondly recall his love for Crown Royal, which was only rivaled by his love for dancing. His man cave was a sanctuary for those he held dear; an invitation inside was a token of his affection and regard. The Long Tap Brewery, a local veteran-owned bar, was among his favorite haunts. There, he was surrounded by friends and fellow veterans who shared stories, respect, and camaraderie over a cold beer.

Family was the cornerstone of Alexander’s world. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Elvira Rodriguez; his beloved wife, Eva S. Rodriguez; and his brothers Arturo, Eduardo, Joe, Rudolfo, Reynaldo, Roberto, and Richard. Alexander’s legacy lives on through his loving children, Martha Moseley (James), Gloria Crawford, Julia Madden (Matthew), Linda Anslinger (Jack), and Bertha Donovan. His grandchildren—Shawn, Thomas, Christopher, Michael, Jacklyn, Alex, Theresa, Harold, Adam, and Joanna—will carry his stories and lessons into the future. His great-grandchildren—Thomas Jr, Brittany, Amber, Anthony, Ava, Krista, Christopher, Mila, Samuel, Tristan, Nathan, Nicolas, Olivia, Sydney, Evan, Ethan, and Rhylee—will know him through the cherished memories passed down through the generations.

Alexander was the epitome of a true hero. His selflessness, intelligence, and kindness were the guiding lights of his existence. As his family and friends mourn his passing, they also celebrate the reunion that has taken place in heaven, where Alexander is undoubtedly country dancing with his eternal dance partner, Eva. Together again, they dance among the stars, their love as enduring as the legacy Alexander leaves behind.

A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Alexander Y. Rodriguez was, and always will be, an emblem of what it means to live a life of service, love, and joy. His was a journey well-traveled, and while he will be greatly missed, the imprints of his footsteps will forever remain on the hearts of those who loved him.
