HOME FOR OUR TROOPS (HFOT’s) COMMUNITY KICK OFF (CKO)
The presence and participation of the San Antonio Patriot Guard Riders have been requested to take part in this joyous event. We have been asked to ride in a LEO supported procession and stand a Flag Line for the veterans and family to participate in the opening ceremony presented by Homes For Our Troops (HFOT). This ceremony will begin the process of building a specially adapted mortgage free home for Army Sergeant Curtis Johnson, in 2005, Curtis Johnson enlisted in the Army to carry on his family’s legacy of military service.
On May 18, 2008, during his first combat deployment, Sergeant Johnson was serving as a combat engineer with the 571st Engineer Company, 14th Engineer Battalion, 555th Engineer Brigade, in Iraq, when his vehicle drove over an improvised explosive device (IED). He sustained severe injuries in the blast, resulting in the amputation of both legs below the knee and tinnitus.
Curtis was medically evacuated and received multiple surgeries before returning stateside to Brooke Army Medical Center for rehabilitation.
Now medically retired, Curtis and his wife, Allison, also an Army Veteran who was injured in Iraq, enjoy spending time with their two children, Andrew and Bradley. Set on a steep, unlevel terrain that is wheelchair inaccessible, their current house makes it difficult to spend time outdoors as a family. The slope of the driveway is challenging for Curtis when entering and exiting the home on his own.
A specially adapted custom home from Homes For Our Troops with a walkway around the entire house will give Curtis the freedom and independence to navigate inside and outside safely from his wheelchair. “One of the most beneficial features of the adapted home for my family will be the ease of access. To not have to struggle getting in and out of the house will be a welcome relief.”
Originally from Oklahoma, Curtis is choosing to build his home in Texas where he and Allison have lived for over a decade.
Curtis would like HFOT donors and supporters to know they are changing the lives of every member of his family. “HFOT donors and supporters are not just changing the lives of Veterans, but the families as well. They are helping build stronger communities by giving the children of injured Veterans a safe place to live, learn, and grow,” he says.

1. Iron horses if you can, cages are always welcome and appreciated and unless under special circumstances not allowed in processions. You do not have to have a motorcycle to participate in honoring our veterans.
2. Safety First: Please remember to properly hydrate (including the night before) before any outdoor activity and to dress appropriately. Do not hesitate to take a break at any time if you feel you need to get in the shade or get indoors and always ask for help at any time. Also please do not forget your sun screen.
3. Please remember that our mission is to stand tall and silent, and with honor and. NO TALKING, SMOKING, CHEWING OF TOBACCO PRODUCTS, OR CELL PHONE USE IN THE FLAG LINE!

Funeral Processions/Escorts
EVERY RIDER IS SOLELY RESPONSIBLE for their own safety at all times while riding in a funeral procession.
At NO TIME are any riders authorized to block any intersection or otherwise block or impede traffic laws in any way. Only Law Enforcement officials are authorized to block and/or impeded the lawful flow of traffic.
If you choose to fly a Flag on your bike you are SOLELY RESPONSIBLE for ensuring it is secured and not a danger to any other rider or traffic.
