SEATS FOR HEROES
“American Airlines and the Dallas Mavericks have requested the attendance and participation of the SA PGR in the 15th Annual “Seats for Heroes” event, a unique experience for some of our nation’s military heroes. Mavericks season ticket holders donated their floor seats so that our soldiers are able to get together and watch a great basketball game. The story is often run by the media each year, featuring footage of our soldiers enjoying the best seats in the house at the American Airlines Center in Dallas.”
“The story actually starts in San Antonio (SAT) every year, long before the charter plane takes off at Dallas Fort Worth (DFW), SAT employees are hard at work getting ready to welcome 125 “Wounded Warriors” from San Antonio Military Medical Center (formerly BAMC). The soldiers are given a hero’s welcome at SAT. The gate area is decorated in Dallas Mavericks blue and white with a holiday spin. When the charter arrives at the gate, the Dallas Mavericks cheerleaders and Mavs ManiAACs deplane and greet everyone. The SAT team has a delicious gate-side luncheon ready for the soldiers, and they get a chance to visit with each other and pose for pictures.”
“After landing at DFW, they will be treated to a delicious dinner before the game. After the game, they will meet and chat with members of both teams before the charter brings them back to SAT.”
The San Antonio Patriot Guard has been requested to “Stand a Flag Line” when the Soldiers arrive at the airport and again at the gate when the Soldiers board the charter and depart.
