US MARINE K9 SGT RAMBO – RETIRED
The family of K9 SGT Rambo requests the presence of the San Antonio Patriot Guard Riders at the Memorial Service for their loved one.
Sgt. Rambo served in the Marine Corps from January 6, 2011 to April 11, 2012 as an explosive detection MWD (military working dog) based out of MCCS Cherry Point, N.C. While on active duty, Rambo conducted 994 hours of training, and 620 searches on base and in his local community, and 2 official stateside missions. Rambo was medically retired due to a left shoulder injury and in November 2012 had to have that limb amputated.
Rambo went on to be the Alamo Honor Flight’s mascot, accompanying countless WWII veterans to Washington, D.C. and even having the honor of meeting Senator and Mrs. Bob Dole. He was also the official ambassador for the Canine Members of the Armed Forces Act, attending press conferences with both Congressman Walter Jones (R) of North Carolina and Senator Richard Blumenthal (D) of Connecticut.
After his adoption, Rambo also became the official mascot for Gizmo’s Gift, a Texas nonprofit that offers financial support to families who adopt a retired working dog. Rambo and his mom Lisa traveled across the nation, nearly 150,000 miles from 2012 until Jan 2019, attending and speaking at events, and schools, and transporting retried heroes to their fur-ever homes.
Rambo was able to connect with children and adults of all ages and capacities. While visiting local nursing homes he was able to bring love and life to the residents who suffer with dementia. He visited youth groups during the summer, and brought hope to children and adults with special needs at Morgan’s Wonderland. Rambo was a hero who was able to cross many lines and bring unity to animal welfare, human rights, and military and veteran groups, all because of his loving personality.
