“HFOT COMMUNITY KICK OFF (CKO)”
The presence and participation of the San Antonio Patriot Guard Riders has been requested to take part in this joyous event. We have been asked to ride a procession and stand a Flag Line for the veteran and family to participate in opening ceremonies presented by Homes For Our Troops (HFOT). This ceremony will begin the process of building a specially adapted mortgage free home for Army Staff Sergeant Jose “Freddy” Ruiz.
On Sept 16, 2010 SSG Ruiz was on his third tour in Afghanistan as a Personal Security Detail with the 1/66th Armored Regiment when an IED caused his vehicle to roll multiple times injuring his head causing TBI and multiple extremity fractures.
Recovery has been slow and “Freddy” describes it as being reborn as he has to relearn how to walk, eat, and talk; as he simultaneously copes with emotional, behavioral and social challenges caused by his injuries. He will not give up!
