Daniel Sassenhagen affectionately known as “PeeWee” by all his family and friends succumbed to his bout with cancer and was called home by his Lord and Savior on October 11, 2024, at the age of 73.

Daniel is survived by his wife Rosalinda (Rose) Flores Sassenhagen, his daughters, Jennifer Sassenhagen (Jason Riddle), Adele Householder, and Danielle Sassenhagen-LeBlanc, husband Justin LeBlanc; eleven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren, siblings, Johnny Sassenhagen, Josie Weidner, Stella Cerda (Raymond), Florence De Los Santos (David) and Frances Ramirez (Leo); several aunts, uncles, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving family members and a host of friends.

Daniel will be welcomed in Heaven by his parents Sophia (Vidaurri) and Juan Sassenhagen, brother Ricky Sassenhagen and granddaughter Kayla Jennae Vollmar.

Born in Seguin, Texas on April 14,1951, Daniel, with a desire to serve, enlisted into the United States Navy before his Seguin High School graduation in 1970 and proudly served in the United States Navy from 1969 to 1975, where he received a college degree. Daniel served on the U.S.S. New Orleans LPH 11 an Iwo Jima-Class Amphibious Assault Ship. Daniel received and proudly wears the NDSM – The National Defense Service Medal, VSM – The Vietnam Service Medal, and VCM – Vietnam Campaign Medal and Bronze Star. On February 9, 1971, Daniel and the U.S.S. New Orleans picked up the Apollo – 14 astronauts, Alan Shepard, Stuart Roosa, and Edgar Mitchell, from the Pacific Ocean after their trip to the moon.

Daniel and Rose celebrated 49 years of marriage, and he truly was in love with Rose. They shared every adventure together and created a beautiful family that brings endless love, happiness, and instant friendship to all who are lucky enough to know them. Daniel was extremely proud of his wife and children and never missed an opportunity to talk about them and spend time with them.

Daniel will be remembered for his incredibly positive attitude, kind nature, sense of humor, quick with a joke, and his unfailing ability to endure any obstacles life threw at him without complaint.

Daniel was best known for his expert hunting and fishing skills. His fishing adventures took him to any body of water from farm ponds, rivers, lakes, streams, and the Gulf Coast where he caught numerous trophy fish. Daniel was an expert marksman, and his hunting took him around Texas, and he enjoyed many years hunting on the Sassenhagen family ranch. He loved to take family members hunting and never missed an opportunity to share his knowledge with family, friends and especially his grandsons and anyone that wanted to learn.

Rose, along with the entire family, wish to extend their heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love and prayers. Our Lord has blessed us and will continue to lead us.
